World's Cheapest Car

Tata Nano, the much-awaited 'People's Car' from Tata Motors, was unveiled at the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi on January 10, 2008.
A four-door car, Nano has a 624cc engine and a mileage of 23 km per litre. It is available in 3 different versions, including one with air-conditioning. However, power steering has been provided.

Contrary to the criticism it faced pre-launch, Tata Nano meets safety standards and emission laws. As promised by Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata, the Nano has been priced at Rs 100,000 or $2,500. This is the dealer price. The buyer will incur further costs like value added tax (VAT) and transportation expenses.

Yet this makes Tata Nano the cheapest car in the world.

The Nano will also be available in two deluxe models and a standard model. It will be rolled out from Tata Motor's plant at Singur in West Bengal and likely to hit the market in the latter half of 2008.
